The Venezuelan Crisis
In the United Nations Security Council (2019), the discussion will be centered in the current situation of Venezuela. During the past few years, Venezuela’s situation has been aggravating and is in an unprecedented political, economic and humanitarian crisis. The South American country is suffering with the many problematic outcomes of an unsuccessful economic project, which have led to an all-time high hyperinflation and driven millions out of the country, creating one of the biggest migratory flows of the western hemisphere. The crisis extrapolates the borders of the country, and has created division internationally between countries opposed to Nicolas Maduro’s leadership internationally and those who stand as its ally. In this committee, we will engage in the three main aspects of the crisis: the state of democracy and its institutions, the economic crisis and the declining humanitarian situation.
